Myofascial Release
Myofacial Release is a massage therapy that is based on the gently stretching of the muscles as well as hands on techniques that break down adhesions and release tension from joints, muscles and nerves. Therapists often use a light twisting motion to break down the adhesions of the muscles.

This technique is very deliberate and slow, but is often just the therapy for releasing muscular tensions and eliminating scar tissue from areas of injury. When a muscle and joint unit are injured this gentle therapy helps in the rehabilitation process promoting healing and mobility in the injured limb.

Myofascial release techniques can be a kneading type massage stroke that helps lengthen and soften the muscle making it more elastic. Strokes are applied in the direction that the fibers of the muscles are running to encourage the lengthening process. Myofascial stretches are held from 1-2 minutes in order to achieve the range of motion that is necessary for a release to take place. These techniques are used to treat a number of conditions including carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, menstrual craps and migraine headaches.

Usually a session of Myofascial Release Therapy will last an hour or more in order to have time to repeat any of the stretches that were not as effective as needed the first time around. Multiple treatments can make a client feel in balance and increase mobility and reduce pain.
