| Lomi Lomi has it's origins in Polynesia where healers practiced by a code and guide known as Huna. This set of principals believes that everything on earth naturally seeks peace, love and harmony. The Lomi Lomi therapist must then practice with loving hands or techniques will not have the necessary effects. Many times Lomi Lomi is actually referred to as Loving Hands massage rather than by its Hawaiin name.
Techniques of Lomi Lomi range from two handed strokes that include the elbows and fore arms to broad gliding strokes that are meant to stimulate the body's ability to generate the love and harmony necessary for a peaceful life. When the body is able to generate these feeling the old bad feelings and memories are replaced with the feelings of love and harmony. When this process is initialized it makes it much easier for the body to maintain the patterns over a period of time. It's like happy training:)
Lomi Lomi Massage is akin to a religious experience in that the practicioner usually says a short prayer before initiating the treatment and the client is often asked to verbally disclose what they expect from the session. Many therapists will lightly chant or hum while laying on of the loving hands which is said to encourage the harmony and love to enter and stay in the body.
Hula which many people know as a Hawaiin dance is also a part of Lomi Lomi and its movements and body flow is performed while the practicioner moves around the table working on the different areas of the body. These techniques are never the same and are used as necessary depending on the clients needs. The dance helps stimulate the flow of energy between the practicioner and the client and help calm the spirit.
