| Feldenkrais is a method of mind and body alignment that takes it's name from its creator Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais who was an Israeli physicist and experienced martial artist. His theories teach that the better understanding we have, and the greater awareness we demonstrate of our own bodies, the healthier we will be. Feldenkrais is not a therapy that involves the muscle treatments that we normaly associate with massage therapy. Instead it includes the study of ones movements and a direct interaction with the therapist rather than a passive position of laying on a table.
Feldenkrais practicioners will teach body awareness and work on poster, breathing and flexibility in order to achieve a harmonic state within. Understanding the bodies movements and the reason behind them help bring an understanding to clients who wish to reconnect with themselves. Learning the proper ways to move can be quite different from the way many people have lived their life. Proper movement is rarely stressed in anything other than sports and not everyone participates in athletics to gain that knowledge.
Many who become clients of Feldenkrais are dancers and gymnasts who want to achieve better use of energy through proper movement and a better awareness of their own being for achieving goals. A body and mind that are at one perform much more effectively than when the they are struggling against one another. Learning these techniques of mind and body awareness bring people in physical fields closer to perfect movements that they wish to achieve.
The body has a state of balance that can be heightened through the study and practice of Feldenkrais. Knowing the way one should move helps bring these patterns into daily use and eventually a thoughtless process that continues to benefit.
