In order to unblock and restore physical and mental health and balance to the human body an acupuncturist inserts thin needles across the acupucture points(referred to as meridians or acupoints) On the other hand, acupressure is non-intrusive and doesn't involve the insertion of needles. It does, however concernthe stimulation of the same meridians through gentle touch.Starting at about $40 per treatment an acupressure session usually lasts about an hour.
Typically one session is not enough. Depending on the seriousness ofthe condition, a series of sessions are usually recommended.Tracing back to over 5000 years to ancient Asia, acupressure was used to treat a wide range of health conditions such as; joint and muscle injury, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and labor pain. It has also been used as a way to increase blood circulation, reduce stress, muscle pain, headaches, improve overall energylevels and relax the body and mind. The client is invited into a relaxing environment and lies fully clothed on a massage table when acupressure is performed.
To promote relaxation, and clearthe clients mind, soft meditative music is often played in the background. In order to encourage blood and lymph flow and to unblock the energy, theacupressurist will then apply gentle pressure with their hands, fingers, elbows on various acupoints across the body.Acupressure encourages the free circulation of lymph fluid and blood. This helps in promoting healing and encourages energy.
Acupressure also helps stimulate the flow of blood and energy (or Chi) throughout the body.Another manner in which acupressure is used is in self defense. Pressure points are used to ward off a potential attacker. Meridian points are studied by many Martial Artists for their use in combating an opponent.
