Massage & Burn Out
28 September 2011It has been five years in this Awesome profession, one thing I have learned is that Massage can be hard on the body. The way to avoid burn out best thing to do is to #1 Hello… Take care of yourself. #2 Take care of your self. And lastly #3 Take care of your self.
All the things you think your client should be doing is what you yourself should be doing..
Water, Good Food, Exercise, stretching, and of course Massage.
I read this great article entitled Five Ways to Avoid Burn Outs, read and apply it.
Get Educated About Massage
6 September 2011The Media is in the dark ages when it comes to proper information about Massage Therapists. You would hope by now people would be able to identify the huge and the subtle ques that make up a Therapeutic establishment vs. a brothel or “Massage Parlor”.
Thank goodness that along with the influx of professional Practitioners and popular Massage franchises, these misconceptions are slowly clearing. States that have previously not been regulated are coming into the fold, but not without the hardships. Many are finding setbacks in legislation, and people/organizations have worked hard to take the steps necessary to educate all who are involved so they can get the needed information across.
These dedicated people/organizations are the Hero’s of today in the Massage World. They are Educating and breaking down barriers, the process can be slow. So I tip my hat to all those who work hard for the building up of the Massage Profession.

And so many more Individuals as well as Associations. Thank you all!
Massage That Fascia
30 August 2011This Youtube video is FANTASTIC!
You can see the layers and find out again why it is sooooo important to hydrate properly. The body is such an amazing tool, with endless learning opportunities. How can one say they know everything about the body, when there are discoveries such as this. Can you truly know such a wonder? I think about the theory’s on what the appendix or tonsils functions are, but know real answers.
I remember being taught and quote all the time to clients that the reason a tendon takes so long to heal and is more painful then a bone break is because the tendons and ligaments do not have their own blood supply… Check out the first Youtube video in conjunction to this one.
The body has the ability to heal itself given the right environment. Why wouldn’t a tendon have its own blood supply?
The correct use and care of this fine body is essential to a long and healthy life.
Hand Washing #1
24 August 2011Check out this article:
Keeping a Massage Therapist’s Hands Germ-Free
Please tell me that therapist still wash their hands vs. using hand sanitizer. Working as a healthcare specialist means you know about the BEST way to prevent germ transmission.
Know When To Get A Massage
8 August 2011Stressed out and need to relax? Get a Massage…
You work hard physical labor jobs everyday? Get a massage every week or every other week…
On the computer the majority of the day? The effects can be just as draining as a physical job, get a massage every week or every other week…
If you work out 3/5 times a week get in a good stretching for 10-30 min a day, a massage will only be necessary once a month.
Everyone and everybody is different, a routine that works for one is not going to work for all. If your job is a HIGH stress job, taking the time to exercise, stretch and relax or get a massage is essential. If you think you are too busy to do these things, think again. Would you rather prioritize your self-care routine now or after you have been diagnosed with High Blood Pressure or other debilitating diseases the body comes up with to wake you up?
If you are a Massage Therapist you know this to be true. When your clients just rely upon you once a week or once a month and don’t have a routine, you are starting all over each massage. By that same token, you must also be getting in your health routine so you can have a long and healthy career. When is the last time you got a massage?
Is Therapeutic Massage Medicine?
1 August 2011Medicine is defined as:
Massage As An Alternative Therapy
26 July 2011I read this WebMD article, “Americans Are Flocking to Alternative Therapies” it compares the survey results for alternative therapies VS medications. More and more I hear clients come in and say they are ready to address the root of the problem and not cover it up with medications any longer. On the other hand, I talk to many people with chronic issues who would rather not waste their time on having yet another appointment and pay yet another co-pay, “I’ll just take the pill thanks.” Respecting ones wishes is fantastic, I treat people how I want to be treated, however I feel it is my duty to inform them first of the benefits of alternative care.
This article shows that many people had good results with Chiropractic care to relieve back pain and Massage, Yoga and Pilates about the same results as medications for their back pain relief. What the article doesn’t mention is the amount of pills taken verses the amount of massages given or classes taken. How many people had less intake of pills when turning to alternative care? How often did pain still occur when taking the medication, did they have to take more then is recommended?

Does the quick fix out weigh the risk? How often do you hear about death by Yoga, Pilates or Massage?
Massage Gate Control Theory
12 July 2011The gate control theory of pain was initially developed by Ronald Melzack and Patrick Wall in 1965. Their idea was that physical pain was not a direct result of the pain activation receptor neurons in the Peripheral nervous system. Pain was activated by the interaction between the Peripheral nervous system that then directs the pain sensation to the Central nervous system. This Theory suggests that the Central nervous system has a “Gate” that opens or closes to control feeling or not feeling the pain message. The Gate has the ability to stop the message from ever reaching the brain.
In Massage it is taught that we as Therapist can “override” the pain receptors. The skin’s Merkel’s disk receptors are stimulated by pressure, this stimulation is a slow adaptation to the Central NS. The Pacinian corpuscle skin receptors are stimulated by vibration, this stimulation is a Rapid adaptation to the CNS. Also the Ruffini’s corpuscle skin receptors are stimulated by stretching, and is a slow adaptation. These Cutaneous receptors are found in the dermis and epidermis. Muscle spindles, one of the sensory receptors in the skeletal muscle tissue detect stretch, the Mechanoreceptors respond to mechanical stress or strain and the Nociceptors respond to tissue damage leading to pain. It was explained that the pressure receptors are more rapid then the slow pain receptors, giving us the ability to increase relaxation and decrease pain.
Within this relaxed state, chronic pain conditions can rehabilitate and release pain pattern holding for a faster recovery time. Yes, Massage is Awesome and Yes it can help with Pain when used at the right time and the right technique.
Massage Retrieval Practice Testing
8 June 2011Our recognized retrieval testing helps students of Massage prepare for their licensing exam and establish a firm foundation for professional practice after graduation. Massage Education centers across the great United States have recommended our program and in most instances added it to their curriculum. Educators include Massage-Exam.com to each individual finale term students curriculum to monitor their accumulated working knowledge. The Instructor access feature allows educators to track scores giving them the ability to add or change subject focus that can in turn improving learning efficiency.
Education is key, lets use the correct keys available to persuade our profession to open the right doors for a stronger community.
Copyrite Laws
23 May 2011Copyright laws are really simple. You write it, its yours. Someone copies your work then your copyright is infringed and legal actions may be pursued.
Massage-Exam.com got its start in 2007, all of our information has been gathered from many sources, the facts are facts. This bone connects to this bone, this nerve services this area and this muscle moves this way. The exams that are necessary to pass in order to obtain a license to practice Massage are original works and are therefore copyrighted. I don’t know maybe its just me but when I was preparing to become a MT I wanted to KNOW the information. So I studied hard and tried to make as many connections as possible with the information provided. When I went to test, I am sure I wanted a cheat sheet to pass (Its a Nerve Racking experience trying to remember a full years of information for one 2 1/2 hours exam), but I was confident that what I had been taught would be sufficient.
My point is that I personally wouldn’t want someone to come along and GIVE me the answers to the exam, I would feel like all my hard work was for nothing. I would truly want to test my knowledge and see if I can use what Ive learned to pass the exam based on my hard work and accumulated knowledge.
So it hurts when I am asked if our questions are the exact same questions that will be seen on their respective exam. The answer is no, the content is similar and the structure of the exam is the same, but our database consists of the basics of massage so that you may review your accumulated knowledge and be able to test your working knowledge.
I find it sad when I hear that other online sites or books that are available to the Massage students claim to have the exact questions of the exams. What good is that???.. Here are the answers memorize them and you will pass. Don’t worry about applying your skills and knowledge acquired to truly test your brain. You want to love what you do, be true to your self and test without cheating.
