Need CE’s in 2010?

31 December 2009

Life in the fast lane, demands therapist’s to take time out and learn a new trick from our vast trade. There is no end to our learning, there is no end to our growth. The only cap we obtain is the one we place on ourselves. This is true for any aspect of your life. When you learn a thing and put it into practice or act upon the knowledge acquired, you add an additional link to your never-ending chain of life.

The World Massage Festival not to be confused with the the online World Massage Conference. Can help us in our endeavors. Both have CE’s available and both have benefits to increase our foundations strength. If traveling is not in your budget, the online conference works for now. But there is nothing like being in a group of like minded people to stimulate the creative juices.

Health Care and Massage

22 December 2009

I have read how other counties have successfully utilized National Health Care, and find it is nothing like what is being proposed in our talks of reform. Like many Massage Therapists, I am self employed. A Sole Proprietor who pays taxes and works hard for her money, yet I am without health care.

This information coupled with the fact that 98% of my Massage Therapist income is from my Insurance clientele, gives me cause to worry. Information varies on weather or not MT’s will make the cut, I found a glimmer of hope when I read this Massage Today article.

I will keep my ears open and hope for the best.

Massage Benefits Resources for Brochures

9 December 2009

Have you made your Massage Therapy brochure yet? Or do you need to update your old one? I was checking out some massage research internet sites and came across this one. The Internet Health Library. It was last updated in 2006, but the information is a good starting off point.

Of course there is always the Touch Research Institute as the good old backup. PubMED.com has up to date research with over 9300 articles regarding Massage benefits. Good reads.
Its nice in a professional office setting to have your resources available as to the research articles, to help define the benefits the massage will have on your clients pathologies.

Ahw the awesomeness of the Internet. Good Luck!

Time Saver’s

2 December 2009

In between clients I have a 15 to 30 min break, however, due to the fact that a client runs late or I work an extra minute or two on an area, sets me back and puts it at 10 to 3 minutes between clients. I have been taught that folding your sheets a certain way optimizes the amount of time spent on the table change over. The paperwork can be printed out and worked on as soon as more time is available, but not washing your hands????

I read this article, it talks about MT’s not washing but using hand sanitizer instead. Just think about this for a minute. If you are going in for a massage would you like to know that your therapists washes their hands really well compared to just using hand sanitizer? I know I would prefer the hand washing any day. Not only your hands but your forearms and lotion or oil bottle as well.

Another question is how often is your blanket washed? Is it like a hotel where the comforter is only washed once a year? Keeping clean means keeping healthy. Never take the shortcut, take the time and wash yourself and keep the room clean.
