Online Free Advertisements

30 September 2009

The internet is a wealth of information, we just need to practice our skills at the best key words to utilize. I just added myself to another free online advertisement, Healthcarehiring.com. They have a listing of therapists throughout the US, and if that isn’t enough they provide a place to advertise jobs for therapists. Nice.

Their are many such sites for our pleasure. I personally have not had anyone come into my location saying they found me online, but hay… its FREE. It could be they where recommended to me by their physician or insurance and then checked me out online, you never know. Lets keep this information wealth going and contribute to our ever growing profession with professionalism.

Bamboo Massage

23 September 2009

I have not heard of this massage modality before, but I could see how it would feel divine. There are even classes in my area this year (Bamboo Fusion schedule). I am thinking about it. I already use stones and love them, this could be just one more thing I could incorporate for deeper work. I would like to get one first, just to make sure.

The only concern I have is proper alignment, my body must last. No over use injuries for this girl. :)

Strong Foundations

16 September 2009

In my three years as a professional Massage Therapist, I have worked in the field and online. The vast information that is available is unlimited and can occupy ones mind for their whole life and still not have the full knowledge of all the modalities associated with massage and bodywork. Massage is a growing industry, many therapists have worked hard for many years to establish a strong foundation for us new-comers. I appreciate all the time and effort that has gone into this endeavor. Their is much that still must be done, but new organizations are springing up that give me hope and strength. The Federation (FSMTB) and the Alliance (AFMTE) are two such organizations.

It’s nice to know that we have strong organizations fighting in our corner for recognition in the Health Care world. Thanks to them all.

Taking Care of Self

9 September 2009

Many CE’s are geared toward the knowledge of Body Mechanics, exercise or movements to improve longevity in your workload. I am sure we have all been taught in our schools proper mechanics, right. But, along with all the other knowledge given, we may have forgotten how important it really is.

I know of a few and have heard of many therapists careers being cut short because of overuse injuries. This happens to be one of our major pathologies we see everyday in our clients. What advise do we give them, what questions are asked and what do we give them for homework? We say, things like; If you want to be comfortable at work change this about your workstation, or this hydrotherapy done morning and night along with stretches or this type of strength exercise, will give you the relief you are looking for.

How hard is it to apply these things in our own lives? Why is it so hard to implement them? What could go wrong if we did? Who suffers if we don’t do these things? Out of all the therapists in this world, who is exempt from getting therapy?

New Massage Organizations

2 September 2009

Relationships within the Massage Industry have been on edge as of late, with the Federation stirring up progress and necessity. We can all agree their is mending needed to allow our hard work as a profession to be recognized as a viable and reliable Health Care facet. We need not bicker over territory and rights, let us take a big step back, a relaxing breath so we may realize, all are in need of the same thing, Progress.

We are still building a foundation, and it needs hard work to ensure that we have firm supporters to stand upon. Massage Today talks of one such organization, as well as another discussed by Massage Mag. These articles will give you hope and strength. It will happen, just keep working towards it.
