Massage Business or Employee?
26 August 2009All of us students of massage have asked ourselves this question more then once. Even if we thought we were sure about owning our own business. Why? Because owning your own business can be ruff, its not for everyone. The best advice I can give is to look at your work history as an objective observer. Yes, you will need to be honest with yourself. If you cannot do so, it is time to rely upon that one person in your life that will tell you the truth no matter what.
Its OK for your business plan to change from time to time, reorganizing thoughts and interviewing other therapists is the best way to find out what accommodations will best suite your ideal business venture. Be flexible at first with your target areas, you might find that your location and building atmosphere doesn’t attract the desired sports or prenatal clients, it is time to make adjustments.
Think outside the box, take your time give other options a chance and play them out in your mind to make sure you can live with the decisions of that avenue. The number one failure I have observed is that too much money is spent finding these answers out after you start your practice. Find a location and stick to it. Clients are looking for reliability, trust and comfort. None of these things can be given to your client, if you are not stable about your foundation. Seek out other therapists, most are very willing to share their experiences, only those who don’t have a firm foundation, will see you as competition and will be unwilling to help. Oh well, now you know.
Good Luck to my fellow seekers of knowledge.
Friction Massage Technique
19 August 2009How often do you use deep transverse friction on a client with the explanation of what you are doing to stimulate tissue repair? According to Massage Today magazine, you may be practicing under the idea that “… a transverse direction to re-align the scar tissue from torn tendon fibers. [explanation is incorrect]… Today, we know that the primary benefit of friction massage is actually the combination of pressure and movement in stimulating fibroblast production, thereby enhancing the tendon’s healing process.”
Which makes logical scenes. If you have not read this article and the links that are in it, I would suggest you do so.
CA State Accepting Massage Therapy Applications
12 August 2009California Massage Therapy Council or CAMTC is now accepting applications to certify all Massage Therapists. The council had there first board meeting February 2009. SB 731 called for a voluntary statewide certification of all massage therapists and was placed into CA law on September 27th, 2008.
This process has been needed for quit some time, state regulations will be tough but defiantly worth all the councils time and effort. One small step for CA, one giant step for Massage Therapists everywhere.
