State Regulations for Massage Therapists

15 April 2009

Wow! I have been a MT for two and a half years now and I have noticed a large increase in the amount of states that have regulatory boards for massage. Could it be the influence of the hard working therapists who have dedicated their time and efforts to make their career choice a recognizable profession throughout the Nation? I say yes, and Thank you to all that contribute including but not limited to many individual therapists, the AMTA, ABMP, FSMTB and franchises like Massage Envy.

April 1st was the beginning of Colorado’s first day as a regulated state. Anyone practicing without an approved application from DORA may be in danger of loosing their privileges to their chosen profession. Indiana, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Michigan are also jumping on the state wide regulation band wagon. Big wheels turn slow, but boy do they have an impact.

Now we are just waiting for Alaska, California (on its way), Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Oklahoma, Vermont, and Wyoming.
