Tips for Your Massage Business
29 April 2009Ok, so I have been checking into online resources for massage therapists. I found FutureLMT.com by MassageMag.com is quite good. When I first started reading the headlines of each issue I was sad, it all was money orientated. Then I read this article “Money and The Therapist” and was impressed. The way they bring up how to budget and monitor flow and even mentioning Balance. I was ready to read more. If you are looking for a free e-newsletter I say this one is beneficial to check out. Even if you have been practicing as a Massage Therapists for a while.
Massage Magazines
22 April 2009The four most popular Massage Magazines are the Massage & Bodywork by ABMP, MassageMag by Massage Magazine, MTJ by AMTA and Massage Today by MPA. Two out of the four are associations for Professional Insurance, the AMTA out of Illinois and ABMP based out of Colorado. The MPA or Magazine Publishers of America is established out of New York and publishes Acupunture Today, Nutritional Wellness, To Your Health, ChiroWeb, Spa therapy, Naturopathy Digest and other Chiropratic media. Massage Magazine also has Future LMT, StudentDC, and ChiroEco.
I feel that we as massage therapists are always learning. Once that school basic curriculum is our foundation, we are always striving to learn more conncted with the body and ways to improve its Health. Some of us are forced by CE’s (so I heard) but I truelly cant wait to learn more. I started out with the ABMP issue and I now receive the AMTA MassageMag, both great resources but finding the time to read them is an issue. I would love to have all of these publications just for reference and learning, but where would I put them?
If you are just starting out and need a little help I have put together a comparison sheet of the insurances and the benifits they offer. Good Luck! And Enjoy.
State Regulations for Massage Therapists
15 April 2009Wow! I have been a MT for two and a half years now and I have noticed a large increase in the amount of states that have regulatory boards for massage. Could it be the influence of the hard working therapists who have dedicated their time and efforts to make their career choice a recognizable profession throughout the Nation? I say yes, and Thank you to all that contribute including but not limited to many individual therapists, the AMTA, ABMP, FSMTB and franchises like Massage Envy.
April 1st was the beginning of Colorado’s first day as a regulated state. Anyone practicing without an approved application from DORA may be in danger of loosing their privileges to their chosen profession. Indiana, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Michigan are also jumping on the state wide regulation band wagon. Big wheels turn slow, but boy do they have an impact.
Now we are just waiting for Alaska, California (on its way), Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Oklahoma, Vermont, and Wyoming.
Montana State Regulations
8 April 2009It seems like almost all the states are getting into action with regulating the Massage Therapy Profession.
Here is a link to the Montana Bill. I love to see progress.
