MBLEx Supported By AMTA
27 January 2009The AMTA announced their support for the MBLEx to become the only massage licensing exam. The exam was launched in 2006, and many state boards have changed over or added the FSMTB exam. Three years later they are continuing to gain support of the Massage community at large.
Lets work together and gain more recognition as a profession and loose the bad baggage of non-regulated moonlighters of massage. Closing the gap on the misconceptions and winning the respect our hard work deserves.

National Healthcare & Massage
21 January 2009I found this blog very interesting. Most of my clients use their insurance, I wondered how national healthcare would affect my business. One of the main reasons I voted for Obama was because of healthcare. Canada has Massage or Reflexology covered under supplemental insurance, It would be great for our perceived healthcare plan included maintenance and prevention with Alternative medicines available to everyone. Now that would be ideal.
Here in Washington, I am considered a Healthcare provider regulated by the state health department. I know its different in every state, but the one thing I was beginning to like in our current healthcare system was the fact that Massage is becoming recognized as a legitimate treatment for chronic and pain issues doctors couldn’t address.
Most family doctors I have come to know through my clients are more then willing to write a script for massages, If the Clients just ask. Kaiser is a little tricky, they aren’t so free. That could be do to the fact that they have a MT on staff of their own, who gives 1/2 hour massages and is booked months out. Its a start.
It would be nice if we could find out what Obamas plan is regarding alternative medicine. Anyone have any ideas?
Massage Insurance Clients
13 January 2009It is best to look through your clients and check on the insurance coverage for this year. Some companies change their coverage every year and the clients have the same card or new. Trust me its just better to check now, you don’t want to be sending in new claims or asking your client to pay a deductible they were not aware of. Just another tidbit I picked up from the awesome Acupuncturist I work with. Get good Ideas pass them on.
Tax Time
13 January 2009Another year gone by and another year of taxes. Starting now to gather all information to enter into your efile, turbotax account or give to your accountant. Do not wait, lets get it done so we don’t stress our selves out.
Happiness is found faster when stress is less. Breathe and do what is needed, take 5-10 minutes a day putting information in and saving it to finish later. Go through your pills (if you don’t have any you can go through mine) get all expenses in one place. This year I will get a box for them only… This year, hopefully not next. lol
Massage Recognition
6 January 2009One of the best ways for the world of massage to become known and accepted is good advertisement. Entrepreneur magazine ranked Massage Envy 58th out of the top 500 franchises, last year it was 82nd. ME has 527 clinics opened with 300 locations in development. That is over 8000 Massage Therapists Jobs.
The more exposure the community has the better. It is always good to shop around for the right therapists, learning what you value in a massage. Gaining the knowledge that price is no object when it comes to your state of well-being. With all of the success in this franchise I hope they continue to add more to the compensation for the therapists.
Here’s to a New Year and the growth of our industry. Spread the word.
