The Rise Of The FSMTB And MBLEx

30 December 2008

I came across this article in MassageMag and found it very interesting. When I was filling out the paperwork to take the NCETMB, it was explained to me about the option to become Nationally Certified through the NCBTMB but it was not mandatory for our state regulations. It was an extra $25 dollars for a certificate to place on your wall and be on the websites list. I choose not to add the paper.

Time has passed and I have not come across any instances for the use of a certificate from NCBTMB. The last few years have been interesting, seeing their reaction to the FSMTB. I don’t think they thought  that the MBLEx would spread as fast as it has, into what they considered “their territory”. Our sister site Massage-Exam.com has heard of the damage the NCETMB has caused many (MONEY & TIME), because they didn’t grasp the CAM techniques, assessment and application concepts.

Mind you, I do believe that some schools are guilty of graduating those who should never have gotten a diploma and have not prepared them enough to take any exam, let alone the NCETMB (not that curriculum should be based off of what they consider valuable). However, if from the beginning the FSMTB wanted to work with the NCBTMB in creating a better exam, and were faced with a flat out refusal. Then all of these surprising events with the rise of the MBLEx, should not be so surprising.

Happy Holidays!

I hope everyone has had a Merry Christmas. I wish the best to all for the New Year. Here is to excavating new territory and learning to find joy in all we do.

Massage Industry Helpers

22 December 2008

For the past two years I have been researching anything related to massage. The majority of the information has been on the giant leaps the massage industry is taking as far as recognition and regulations. In my opinion their have been two major contributers. The FSMTB and Massage Envy.

Both organizations have brought fire to the massage world, the FSMTB for its Massage licensing and regulations for state boards and Massage Envy for the legislative and franchise abundance, educating the US citizens that massage is indeed beneficial and needed.

Some times it is hard to see the “Big Picture”, right now I am focusing on the benefits and I see many great qualities being made known that will enhance the future of Massage in general. That can only mean good things for this growing community. Enjoy the good to the fullest and the bad are outnumbered.

Massage In This Economy

15 December 2008

I have had many people ask how my business is doing. I must say it is going well. It seems the more stress my clients are under the greater need for a massage (go figure). Most of my clients are insurance claims and have only a co-pay to effects their spending. Owning your own business is ruff but satisfying. It has been two years and I feel that now my work is paying off. I love all my clients for their diversity and complexity and wouldn’t trade my profession for the world.

Even with the foreseen drops in the economy, this career is so diverse we all have many avenues that can be taken. Improvement in productivity or the ability to add more techniques for stress relief, or even sending home little packets of Epsom salt or sombra. My point is don’t give up, be creative and love what you do. Don’t get stressed out if things are not how you think they should be. Relax, get a massage and think of new ways to utilize your skills for good and all will be right.

Finding Out The Next Step

10 December 2008

I love my job, it is the best. I have 2 years under my belt as an LMP and have come to the point where I want to learn another modality to add to my standard blend. With so many choices out their I have yet to narrow my selection. Along with the basics from my 800 hours of school I have added Hot Stones and Chair Massage. Now I am looking for something to enhance the knowledge I have gathered thus far.

My sister, who is also a MT going on 14 years has many hours of continuing education credits and has added much to her repituar. What I love about this field is that you can take the information that has been taught and turn it into your own rendition of what you think is more effeiciant and can add to your exsisting treatments.

Working smarter and allowing my body mechanics to improve the quality, effectiveness and longevity of the benifits of each massage, is my goal.

Sharing what is learned is a determining factor of my goal. I am a knowledge seeker and with that I want to attract like minds.  I send this request out into the Universe.

Massage For All Seasons

2 December 2008

Gift certificates are always a good way to say I love you. What better way to treat yourself, friends and family with a massage or five. Taking time for ourselves is a necessity in this fast pace instantaneous world. Knowing that you spent money on a gift certificate for yourself will get you to have an hour of relaxation. Massage Therapists need to practice what we preach (me included) and get a massage don’t delay. Get the word out and make those appointments.
