Regular Massage Maintenance
29 July 2008My Massage practice has been up and running for almost two years now and I have had enough regulars to truly see the benefit of continuing massages after the initial issue for the first visit dissipates. Some insurance companies have the ability for businesses to give their employees 45 massages a year with only paying co-pays. These employees have high stress jobs and need this benefit of regular relaxation sessions.
It’s nice as a MT to see and feel the fabulous tone muscles show as the result of regular maintenance. A couple of people who come into me every two weeks no longer have chronic issues and enjoy the release of their moderately hypertonic muscles to zero. I love seeing it. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it, this is just one of the awesome benefits of being a Massage Therapist.
Homework for Clients
23 July 2008I have noticed lately that I have been telling many clients about tennis ball massage or TP therapy. Yeah, in between massages I want the chronic problems for my clients to dissipate and for them to take an active approach to decreasing their pain.
Many people have pain that is due to tight muscles or tendons along their spine. One of my Massage Therapist who just happens to be my sister, told me about the sacral wedge and stillpoint inducer combo. She gave me both to try but for the stillpoint I like to put two tennis balls inside a tube sock and tie the end for the same affect but more comfortable for me.
Get creative and come up with ideas on how to stretch your clients in between massages. A client that I have seen a couple of times who’s big into sports all their life, who I assumed stretched, was not stretching and asked me what stretches should be done. I am always happy to educate, but that took be aback.
I love what I do and I can’t say that enough, now I just have to make sure I do my homework that I give myself as well.
Massage Boundaries- More Time vs. Sticking to The Hour
14 July 2008I was talking to a fellow MT about how she would feel inspired to give a little extra time to her client in their session. This was every once and a while, and then they would just expect every session to run longer.
If I have the time, I will go over the hour, but it is rear. Many times I am 5 to 10 minutes over but Never more then 15. Training myself to keep it at an hour is hard enough but when I don’t have a client right after the session I go over and sometimes that can be an inconvenience to the other people in my office. Should I run the risk of going over sometimes and have people expect it, or just stay at the hour mark and push aside inspiration.
The set time sounds better, but not listening to and acting on just a few extending minutes to help further relaxation and relief seems wrong. What do you think, more time or stick to the hour?
