Massage Insurance Benefits

29 February 2008

I just got done checking on all the claims that have not been paid for from last year up until November. I also had to check all my current clients new deductibles and co-pays. Most stayed the same, many changed. It’s a good thing the Acupunctures I work with told me to check them out, I could be cleaning up a huge mess.

So if you haven’t yet, it’s better to do so sooner then later. Telling your client they owe you money from the last four massages is NOT fun.

Massage Oils and Lotions

26 February 2008

I know that I am very particular when it comes to the product I use with my clients. I have come to rely and love my grape seed water-based gel, for it glides evenly, is hypoallergenic, washes out of my sheets and lasts a long time. Sure I have others I use if I must, but this is what I always come back to. Oh, I forgot to mention it gets awesome glide on hairy bod’s as well.

Finding the right lubricant is just as important as what modalities you get certified in. Buy smaller bottles first, until you know what you like best, then purchase the gallon bottles.

Online Courses For Massage?

25 February 2008

I have come across a couple of advertisements for online study to become a massage therapist. Some even say they are accredited. When I click on their information (just to check things out) they have campus locations. So I am thinking they are part online part on campus. If that is true that would be awesome. A complete online course however doesn’t sound so good.

There was another that had video feeds of sections that you could pay 5 dollars to see the “leg and foot massage” for example. No I didn’t pay, you can probably find it for free on utube, who knows. My point is, nothing beats real hands on training with a qualified instructor. Or having the ability to work with others furthering your knowledge of ways to improve on techniques and selfcare.

Lets continue in the efforts to making Massage Therapy knowledge increase in a positive manor for the benefit to all therapists and clients everywhere. Educate the masses.

State Regulations on Massage Therapy Needs Tightening

21 February 2008

If ever there is a better reason for the FSMTB it is now. We need tighter ships as state boards are concerned having set rules and regulations, leaving no confusion as to what is expected. States such as Massachusetts are in dire need of Statewide regulating board.

Check out this story.

Massage Business Tax Forms

20 February 2008

If you haven’t gotten all your 1099-MISC. from every insurance company you have gotten money from, you need to contact them. They should have it to you by now.

Also make sure you send your Insurance Renewal form to them each year at the time of renewal. Not getting it to them in a timely manner can cause delays of payments or no payments at all.

Create a list of the Insurance companies and their fax numbers, so when it comes time to send in your insurance and tax information sheet you have all the information you need right at your fingertips.

AMTA Massage Associations

13 February 2008

I am just wondering how many of the Massage Associations are started and maintained by the American Massage Therapy Association (founded in 1943). So far I have found that the NCBTMB National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork, the MTF Massage Therapy Foundation and COMTA Commission of Massage Therapy Accreditation are.

Does anyone know of any others? I will look into it some more, because it is interesting that an insurance company can run these organizations and not have other motives. I don’t know, just my way of thinking. I may be wrong but they have been around for a while and things are not run the way they should be.

Keeping The Spark

8 February 2008

How can your love affair of being a Massage Therapist stay alive? Just like any love affair you must appreciate the good and the bad that comes with the territory and use it for your learning and profit.

If you own your business, stick to a plan and execute it with the passion you started it with. If you work for others make sure your needs are being met, what ever they are. Or you will be very unhappy. Make sure that the working relationship is 50/50 with the give and take. So you don’t get run down or over.

Don’t assume that what works for one will work for all. Every new body is a mystery to solve. Broadening your horizons with interesting continuing education classes will excite the senses and stimulate your never-ending growth possibilities as a MT.
